Ravichandran Ashwin, born on 17 September 1986 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, is a former Indian cricketer.Ashwin did his early schooling from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan And did his graduation in B.Tech in Information Technology from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai. Ashwin started playing cricket at the age of 9. Ashwin initially used to bowl medium fast balls but started spin bowling on the advice of his coach. Ashwin made his domestic career first class debut for Tamil Nadu against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy in 2006 at the age of 20. Ashwin is a right-arm off-spin bowler and right-arm lower-order batsman. When India won the 50-over World Cup for the second time after 27 years by defeating Sri Lanka under Dhoni’s captaincy, Ashwin was part of the team And when India defeated England in 2013 and won the Champions Trophy under Dhoni’s captaincy, Ashwin was also a part of the team. He played domestic cricket for tamilnadu and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian premier league.He played many other Foreign leagues in many countries.Ashwin has got the most fame and achievements in test cricket in his entire cricket career.

Schooling Days

Ashwin’s father also used to play cricket when Ashwin was in school. Seeing his father playing cricket, Ashwin also started playing cricket. In the initial days, Ashwin used to bowl fast but on the advice of his coach, Ashwin started bowling off spin. Ashwin started playing cricket at the age of 9 and was initially coached by Chandrasekhar Rao.After this, Ashwin went to another academy and there, on the advice of his coach CK Vijay Kumar, he changed his bowling from fast bowling to spin bowling. Ashwin took coaching under former India spinner Sunil Subramaniam and mentor former cricketer WV Raman.Ashwin started his cricket career playing as an under- 17 opener.

Tamil Nadu

Ashwin played domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu. Ashwin played his first class debut match in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 20 against Haryana in 2006 and took 6 wickets.And played his list a career debut match against Andhra Pradesh and took 2 wickets in this match . He has represented Tamil Nadu in several seasons of Ranji Trophy.He was the captain when the team won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2008-09 and reached the semi-finals in 2015

couunty Career

Apart from the Indian Premier League, Ashwin has also participated in many other foreign leagues . In 2017, Ashwin made his debut in the English County League for Worcestershire against Gloucestershire and took 3 wickets. Ashwin played 5 matches in the County Championship and scored 339 runs, taking 34 wicket

IPL Career

Ashwin was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 12 lakh in the 2008 season of IPL but unfortunately he did not get a chance to play even a single match.Ashwin made his IPL debut against Mumbai Indians on 18 April 2009.In the 2010 IPL, Ashwin played 8 games and took 13 wickets, taking his team to the semi-finals and gave an outstanding performance . In 2010, Chennai won the IPL title and Ashwin Choosed for the Player of the Series award for taking the most wickets . Ashwin was selected in the Indian team for limited overs in 2010 for his good performance in IPL. Ashwin played for the same team Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2015 and played an important role in Chennai’s IPL titles in 2010 and 2011.After this, Rajasthan Royals bought Ashwin in 2022 for Rs 5 crore till 2024 .Ashwin had received ipl sallery from Chennai Super Kings ₹12 lakhs from 2008 to 2010, ₹3.91 crores from 2011 to 2013 and ₹7.5 crores from 2014 to 2015.Ashwin has been bought by Chennai Super Kings for 9.75 crores in the 2025 auction of IPL.Ashwin was bought by Delhi Capitals in 2020 for Rs 7.6 crore after being released by Punjab Kings and was released after 2021 . Ashwin was bought by Punjab Kings in 2018 for Rs 7.6 crore and made the captain. International Career

After giving a good performance in IPL 2010, Ashwin was selected for the tri-series to be held in Zimbabwe in May 2010. And he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 5 June 2010 and scored 32 runs in 38 balls and also took 2 wickets but India lost the match. Ashwin made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in Harare and there he took 1 wicket for 22 runs in 4 overs.Ashwin was part of the squad that won the Asia Cup in 2010. In 2010 itself, Ashwin was selected for the ODI home series against Australia .After this, Ashwin was selected for the home series against New Zealand in November-December 2010. Ashwin played all the matches of the series and took 11 wickets and India won the series by 5-0. Ashwin was also included in the 2011 World Cup squad but he get a little chance and played only 2 matches in the world cup due to the presence of specialist experienced spinners Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla in the team . In October 2011, Ashwin was selected for the England tour where he took 10 wickets and was the second highest wicket taker and India won the series by 5-0. Ashwin made his test debut in Delhi in November 2011 against West Indies and took 3 wickets for 81 runs in the first innings and 6 wickets for 47 runs in the second innings And he became the 3rd Indian player to win the man of the match title in his debut match .After this, in his 3rd Test in Mumbai, Ashwin took 5 wickets for 156 runs and became the 3rd player to score a century and take 5 wicket in the same inning of test career.And Ashwin won the Man of the Series title.Ashwin also participated in the 3 match Test series in Australia in 2011-12 but Ashwin did not give his best performance there and took only 9 wickets.After this, Ashwin was selected for the Asia Cup to be held in March 2012, where he played 3 matches and took 5 wickets. After this Ashwin played the home series against New Zealand and in the 1st Test of the series in Hyderabad, he took 6 wickets for 31 runs in the first innings and 6 wickets for 54 runs in the second innings and won the Man of the Match award .And in the second match played in Bangalore he took 5 wickets for 69 runs. India won the series 2-0. Ashwin was chosen as the Man of the Series for his taking 18 wickets outstanding performance in this series.In the T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka in 2012, Ashwin played 4 matches and took 5 wickets with an economy of only 6. In the 2012 India vs England Test series, Ashwin took 14 wickets and scored 243 runs with 2 fifties and was the second highest run scorer in the series .
